Lisbon (two of the seven hills, like Rome)
On my way back from the Porto confernce I decided to spend a couple of days in Lisbon which was hosting the World Exposition 98. Lisbon is so big and built on hills which makes in hard to get around by car or on foot. And busses don't help that much, nor does a subway. Beautiful city, but I am sure I did not see much. Nothing like staying at the Ritz!
What is this? I am in Lisbon not SF
Onward to EXPO. One travel regret was that I never visited the beautiful Azores Islands, where my paternal Grandfather was born and from where that side of my family tree came from. I did visit the Azores pavillion at the expo and saw many breathtaking photos of the Islands. I have a desk book of these photos. Columbus stopped in the Azores on his voyages several times. The are 800 miles from Portugal and as such maintained a more pure Portugese culture over the centuries as they were not overrun by many enemies of Portugal like the mainland.
The Portuguese were the world sailors for century. They had a huge influence in Japan and of course Brazil. The tomb of Vasco De Gama
